George F. Buerger Jr., MD - Emeritus

Dr. George F. Buerger completed his Ophthamology residency at the Eye and Ear Hospital of Pittsburgh followed by an Oculoplastic fellowship with Byron Smith MD at the Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital in New York City. During that time he and other fellows of Dr. Smith founded the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS).

Dr. Buerger returned to Pittsburgh in 1969 and founded Pittsburgh Oculoplastic Associates, Ltd. He is a past president of the Pittsburgh Ophthamology Society and the Allegheny County Medical Society. Dr. Buerger retired in 2007.
